The 12V power wire at the 7-Way socket will be routed straight to the battery through a 40A circuit breaker and the blue wire from the brake controller will go straight to the 7-Way. If you don't have any of the wiring then you'll want to pick up our Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7, but if you're just needing the circuit breaker then use part # PK54540.

I do have a potential solution for you, however we don't have a traditional 5th wheel tailgate available that's designed to fit your 1986 Ford F-250. What we do have, however, is the Pilot Tailgate Net # TR-03 that is confirmed to fit and can essentially perform the same function - which is to eliminate clearance concerns or prevent damage to the tailgate while you have your 5th wheel trailer hooked up.

Valley has been out of business for many years, but unless it was one of their under bed mount system hitches, they all used industry standard bed rails, including the power pull. You can compare your hitch mounting tabs to the rail spacing like what's shown in the provided photo. For a regular extension that fits a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver the longest available is going to be 18 inches such as # C45796. In order to reach at least 30 inches you would then need to use a ball mount that measures at least 12 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole.

The cushion inside of the Convert-A-Ball cushioned ball mount # AMSC4 would have only a slight affect on the surge coupler on your trailer. You may not even notice it. The cushion is very dense and the more pressure that is put on it the firmer it gets. It would take more force to compress that cushion than to actuate the surge coupler.
Cushioned ball mount # AMSC4 has a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop but there are other options if you need a different rise or drop to tow the trailer level:
